A typical class consists of warm-up exercises, continuing with basic techniques, and gradually moving into more vigorous training. The general pattern is that the entire class sits and watches as the instructor demonstrates a technique. Following the demonstration, everyone in the class will quickly choose a partner and then practice the technique for about 10 minutes. Partners work together, alternating as Uke (the attacker), and Nage (the person receiving and quelling the attack by performing an Aikido technique). The instructor will clap to designate when it's time to sit for demonstration of the next technique. This progresses until the end of class. As we practice together, a safe and enjoyable learning environment is everyone's chief interest.

Visitors are always welcome. If you are curious, please stop by during training hours and take a look. There is an open area near the mat where visitors are welcome to stand or sit while watching.

We have a well-maintained Dojo at 43210 Christy Street, Fremont, CA 94538. Please feel free to come down and check us out during our class ours. Finding the dojo for the first time may be a bit of a challenge. Enter from Christy street and then immediately turn right. Pass the first possible left turn and then make a left turn following the main complex office. You will find the dojo on the left side about 3/4 of the way down the short street. Our dojo hours are typically outside normal working hours, so there is almost always plenty of parking available.

Vocabulary

Like most other Aikido schools, we use Japanese vocabulary to name Aikido techniques which are learned as part of training.

A complete list of that vocabulary is available for Download here.
